How long does it take to learn Georgian?

First, consider how you are going to learn it.

If you want to sign up for Georgian classes, usually it will be twice a week. You will be receiving limited lessons weekly, and there will be days that you will not have anything to study.

That’s bad. If you want to learn a language and not to forget what you learned 2 weeks later, you have to study it daily. There should not be a gap in your learning.

Another option is to get some Georgian grammar books and study them every day, for many hours.

That’s really boring. If you are not taking a Georgian university course, you are not going to study for long hours. You probably have a job to do, or your university lessons to study, or maybe a family to take care of. Investing so much time to learn a language is impractical for most of us.

That’s why I have created a free mini-course for you, consisting of 5 lessons. You don’t need to go to a class or study anything at all. You do not need to learn the alphabet, either. At the beginning stage, I want to teach you how to speak Georgian and get results fast. I know for a fact that having confidence and passion for the language is far more superior to it being perfect.

Each audio lesson is about 30 minutes long. I'd like you to listen each lesson twice at least. That means 5 hours total. You can do this in 5 days. Personally, I do not recommend studying Georgian more than an hour a day.

After 5 days of practicing with my mini-course, you will know 72 words, by heart. You will use these new words without thinking about them! And whenever someone uses them, you will recognize them!

So, you can see that it is totally possible to start speaking Georgian in 5 days, using my method!

3 stages of mastering any new language

I want to remind you that when you start learning a new language, there are 3 stages that you will go through.

Stage 1 – They understand you, but you don’t understand them.

In the beginning, you’re going to have limited vocabulary. You can convey your message to a Georgian, but they will not be able to convey their response back to you all the time. They have no idea about the level of your active vocabulary, so they may use words that you do not know yet.

However, if you spend enough time with a Georgian, there is a high chance that they will become acquainted with the words that you already know and start to use only those for communication.

Stage 2 - You start to understand them better, but you start to lose your confidence!

While you had a lot of confidence and excitement at stage 1, when you learn Georgian better and get familiar with some grammar, you will start to see that you make lots of mistakes. Basically, you will be able to understand perfect Georgian spoken by them, but you will need to ponder a lot before speaking in order to sound perfect.

But if you can hang on a little bit longer, you will reach the 3rd stage:

Stage 3 - You are fluent in Georgian

At this stage, you will feel at ease with the language. Even if you do not understand a word or a phrase, you know how to ask in Georgian for an explanation. You know enough words to continue learning Georgian, without the help of any other language or dictionary.

Usually it takes at least a year to reach that stage. Be realistic in setting your goals and do not kill your enthusiasm!

Have fun!

Mehdi
